Saved by a Prayer- A Soldier Shares His Miraculous Account with the Yated

“Abba,” my son said to me, “you must hear the incredible story of the miracle that happened to a soldier because of davening Maariv.” My immediate reaction was one of skepticism. I have heard dozens of such stories in recent days and I have difficulty believing most of them. These days, there are countless stories circulating, and I have a feeling that a number of them were fabricated, imagined, or “recycled” from past events.

My son, an avreich who is married to a granddaughter of Rav Yaakov Edelstein, is generally a serious and responsible person. He has a chavrusashaft every Thursday night with Rav Aryeh Finkel and is a member of a small group of avreichim who have been close followers of Rav Aryeh since their days as talmidim in Mir Brachfeld (the branch of Yeshivas Mir located in the Brachfeld neighborhood of Kiryat Sefer, otherwise known as Modiin Illit). Another member of that group is Asher Chaim Waldman, whom I know from the time he spent in yeshiva together with my son.

 

My son did not relent. “Abba,” he said politely, “this isn’t some fantasy that someone invented. It’s a real story! Asher Chaim Waldman told it to me.”
