Calendar Confusion

I look around and wonder For something seems awry It's getting close to Elul Yet it is still July The first two weeks Of summer camp No music if we'd sing The Nine Days were upon us We couldn't do a thing

And soon we’re blowing shofar

And Yom Tov’s at our door

And my counselor is shouting

About the color war!

And school has not yet started

And backpacks are not packed

And Yom Hadin is knocking

Will we reach it intact?

I think about the calendar

It’s called Gregorian

I am not a philosopher

Nor a historian

But every once a while

It’s important to know

That our calendar and theirs

Do not go quite in tow

Imagine school

That used to start

Sometime near Labor Day

Well this year Rosh Hashanah

Is just two days away!

This year our Chanukah won’t fall

Sometime in December

While some are eating turkey

Latkes we’ll remember

Remember on the Yom Tov

Some kid would sneak the score

But now the games

Go way past then

A month and even more!

Oh Hillel and your bais din

Imagine what would be

If we just went on like this

With no Adar Sheini!

Our schedules are all

Messed up

And we’re confused for sure

So thank you for your vision

And for the ibber yohr!
